Have a Field Day is the day for celebrating the UK’s amazing parks and green spaces, organised by park charity Fields in Trust. On Saturday 8th July, they are calling on all park-users, from sports teams to gardening societies, to come together and demonstrate why they love their local park.
Parks, playing fields and sports pitches are a well loved part of our local landscape and support the mental and physical health of whole communities, from pre-school children to retired adults; but funding cuts mean they are under threat. Through Have a Field Day, Fields in Trust want to highlight how well-used and well-loved the UK’s community green spaces really are!
You will be in good company, on Saturday 8th July thousands of people up and down the UK are coming together to celebrate and fundraise on their local green space in all kinds of ways – from sports days, to summer fetes, and from dog shows to community tree planting. Have a Field Day events will be diverse and inclusive, a movement of park-users demonstrating all the ways in which green spaces benefit communities.
It is easy to get involved – by hosting or attending a Have a Field Day event in your local park. If your sports team has training or a match on 8th July, you can register your session as a Have a Field Day event and simply hold a bbq or picnic afterwards for spectators! No matter how big or small your event, Fields in Trust want to hear about how your park makes a difference to your community. If you fundraise at your event to help Fields in Trust continue protecting parks forever, you will also be sent an exciting event box.
Can’t do 8th July? No problem! In the build up to Have a Field Day, Fields in Trust are asking supporters to do 2 minute sports challenges in their garden or local park, and make a video of it. Dizzy penalties or keepie-uppies with a rugby ball are perfect for this, but anything that is sporty and a bit daft works!
