We promised to share the best footballing gems we find online, so here’s not one, but TWO goalkeeping howlers from recent weeks that we just couldn’t quite believe.
To describe these mistakes as schoolboy errors or pub team football would be giving a bad name to schoolkids everywhere and the fine institution that is Sunday League.
First up, the one you’re most likely to have seen doing the rounds, is this incredible gaffe from Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli to gift Fiorentina a 3-1 lead in Serie A last Sunday.
Not only did this lead to a whole lot of uovo on the faccia of Consigli but, after the Calcipoli scandal of 2006, it also prompted some fairly inevitable questions about match fixing in Serie A.
But if you thought that OG was good, check out this beauty from the Oceania Champions League, as Mickael Roche, goalkeeper for Tahitian champions AS Tefana, sticks one in his own net from a near-impossible angle to gift Fijian champions Nadi FC their only goal in a 6-1 tonking.
Anything you can do Andrea, I can do better!
