BBC Get Inspired and the FA offer footballers of all abilities the opportunity to bid for Cup glory
The Football Association has joined forces with the BBC to launch the FA People’s Cup – a nationwide competition giving footballers of all ages and abilities the chance to play in their version of the FA Cup.
The new five-a-side knockout competition, which forms part of the BBC’s ‘Get Inspired’ campaign, will see more than 100,000 players from up to 14,000 teams battle it out for the chance to lift the FA People’s Cup trophy at Wembley Stadium on FA Cup Final day.
The tournament, which is free to enter, welcomes male and female players from across 10 different categories from under-14s up to veterans (over-35s) and includes a walking football competition and a series of disability football festivals.
The competition will take place over three rounds on the following dates:
* First round: 20-22 February (550 venues nationwide)
* Semi-finals: 24-26 April (eight regional venues)
* Finals: Bank Holiday Monday 25 May (Manchester)
Finalists for the disability tournament will be decided through a series of disability festivals taking place across the country in March and April.
All winning teams will get a VIP trip to the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 30 May, including the chance to lift the People’s Cup trophy at the world-famous stadium.
Registration is open until 14 February via thefa.com/play-football, where players or teams can find an FA People’s Cup first round competition in their local area. Players without an existing team can register as an individual and join ‘wild card’ teams formed on first round weekend.
The BBC will be following the competition throughout, with cameras visiting different venues to capture some of the action. Entrants may even see the odd celebrity team lining up amongst the opposition. Highlights of the finals will be available to watch on the BBC Get Inspired website.
