Just Play – free kickabouts up for grabs this summer

The Football Association is offering free drop-in football sessions this summer in a bid to encourage more football fans across the country to get playing the game.

Hoping to build on the excitement around the World Cup in Brazil, the FA and Mars are offering everybody one free Just Play session at participating centres between 12 June and 13 July.

The Just Play scheme, which is in its third year, offers drop-in football sessions to people wanting to play football, regardless of age, ability or gender.

Just Play is focussed on those people looking to get back into football without having to make a long-term commitment – and for the next month anyone can register and get involved free of charge, with 20,000 places up for grabs at 1,400 sessions nationwide.

England manager Roy Hodgson supports the initiative, which he believes opens opportunities to people that may not otherwise get involved in the game.

“This is about playing football for fun. Playing football because you love to play and I think there’s lots of people out there who love to play football,” he said.

“So it’s terrific that you can come and play yourself and meet up with like-minded people.”

Hodgson’s England squad are currently in Miami ahead of their trip to Brazil, which sees them take on Italy in Manaus on 14 June – two days after the tournament opens and the Just Play World Cup offer begins.

All Just Play sessions will be run by FA-trained organisers, and will include a number of activities to ensure that everyone is catered for. Players need to take kit and boots, but everything else required for a game will be provided.

To get involved just visit thefa.com/justplay, enter your postcode and book yourself into a local session for free and then just turn up and play. Offer includes one free Just Play session per person between 12 June – 13 July 2014 at participating Just Play centres only.
