SFA survey aiming for "positive action"

The Scottish Football Association wants to find out what the grassroots football community knows about its wide range of football programmes.

If you would like to get involved in football north of the border but feel there are barriers in your way, you can make your voice heard by taking part in a new SFA survey.

Part of the Scottish FA’s Football Equity Project, the survey will help the Scottish FA to shape the way it supports individuals, groups and diverse communities.

The survey is funded by the Scottish Government’s CashBack For Communities programme and BEMIS (Black and Ethnic Minority Infrastructure in Scotland) is a key strategic partner in the project.

"The Scottish FA is committed to giving people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to participate equally and flourish in our national game," the survey states. "Whether you are a player, coach or volunteer, there is a grassroots football programme for you."

Scottish FA football development manager Donald Gillies said: “We have long been advocates and providers of football for all. However this resource has given us a fantastic opportunity to really create a targeted approach to getting the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Communities further involved in the sport.

“We hope to understand the needs and wants of a variety of groups, and provide knowledge of new and existing opportunities to get into the game.

“We fully understand that this is a two-way process. As well as informing and supporting BME communities with regards to the grassroots game, we need to educate the established grassroots clubs to help them recognise and cater for the diverse communities that we live in.

"We hope that the survey will be the beginning of a great deal of positive action for the game.”

Complete the survey and you will be entered into a prize draw for an Adidas football starter pack. One winner from each of the six SFA Regions will receive twelve footballs, ten bibs and a set of markers. The survey closes on 31 October 2012.
