100 days to Paris 2011 Homeless World Cup kick-off

In 100 days time, teams from 64 nations across the globe will converge on Paris as the 2011 Homeless World Cup kicks off.

The ninth edition of the annual tournament, which uses football as a vehicle to tackle homelessness, takes place from 21-28 August 2011 and will feature reigning champions Brazil and debutants Indonesia.

16 teams will participate in the Women’s Homeless World Cup – the largest field yet – including Canada, France, Kenya and Scotland, all represented by a female team for the first time.

Mel Young, President and co-Founder of the Homeless World Cup said: “The Paris 2011 Homeless World Cup will be once again a great opportunity for homeless people to participate on a global football event, stand proud and become true ambassadors for their country.”

Research from the Homeless World Cup consistently demonstrates over 70% of players change their lives; spectators, media and government change their hearts and minds; and grassroots football programmes are triggered all the way around the world.
