So if you’re in or around the football hotbed that is South Yorkshire, why not come and pay us a visit?
We’ll be out and about bright and early tomorrow, paying a visit to the Birdwell Recreation Ground near Barnsley in the morning, then heading to watch a game in Rotherham in the afternoon before going for a couple of post-match drinks in Sheffield.
Since we launched our Football Revolution at the start of this season, we’ve been wanting to find out what matters to you lot out there – the people at the heart of the grassroots game.
The first big topic that came up was the state of facilities available to amateur footballers across the UK, so we decided to look into it. Turns out that half of you have to put up with facilities that are not up to scratch while many of you don’t even have any changing rooms to use for your matches.
You’ve been sending in your stories, photos and videos of your facilites – or lack of them! – so we decided to get out there and start paying a few of them a visit.
We kicked off the tour with an eye-opening trip to Birmingham last month and now we’re heading up to Yorkshire to find out if it’s as grim up north as it was with the facilities we saw in the Midlands.
We’ve been sent a few photos of the facilities at Birdwell Rec in Barnsley, home ground of The Acorn FC who play in the Wragg Football League. They certainly made us stop and take notice – and have been causing quite a stir on Facebook – so we’ll be heading there tomorrow morning to take a look for ourselves!
We want to see exactly what sort of state the place is in and speak to those who play there, so we’re meeting up with players and managers from The Acorn FC and Elsecar Dynamos to find out what they think about the facilities and others in the South Yorkshire area.
We’ll then take up the case on behalf of those who use the facilities and try to get something done about the issue, as we’re trying to do right across the country!
We’ll watch some of the football being played at Birdwell before following The Acorn FC over to Rotherham to catch some of their away game at Silverwood Miners Welfare working mens club.
So if you’re due to play there or at Birdwell Rec on Saturday afternoon, keep an eye out for the Club Website boys and pop over and say hello. We’ll have tea and coffee to keep those on the touchline warm, whilst we should also have a few treats for the players themselves.
Have a drink on us!
If you can’t make it down for the football, we’ll be retiring to The Acorn Inn in Sheffield for a couple of post-match drinks with the guys from their team later in the afternoon.
We’d love to see any Club Website users down there and we’ll be buying a round or two, so if you’re in the area come on down and let us buy you a drink!
Hope to see you there!
