Club Website teams win big with the LSPL!

Drumchapel UnitedCongratulations to Drumchapel United under 21s who have been crowned the inaugural Lucozade Sport Performance League (LSPL) Champions.

Drumchapel came out on top of 80 Club Website teams selected to take part in the first season of the virtual league, which saw teams go head-to-head in an exciting online championship using results entered on to their club website.

After a perfect season which saw them take a 100 percent record from their 18 league games, the Glasgow-based outfit kept the opposition at bay to secure their crown and an exclusive trip for the squad to a European Training Camp.

Huge credit also to Technical Services FC who, despite being a relatively new team with a small squad, pushed Drumchapel all the way.

They still had plenty of silverware to celebrate, however, winning an amazing treble of the Shropshire Alliance League, the Alliance League Challenge Cup and the John Davies Charity Cup, where they came from a goal down to beat rivals Hanwood in the final. Well done TSFC!

Both title rivals and every one of the 80 LSPL teams enjoyed a season of sponsorship by Lucozade Sport, including free kit and equipment, a season’s supply of Lucozade Sport, coaching and sport science support from Lucozade Sport’s experts, plus coverage in both the local and national media.

With support like this, each of the 80 teams taking part in the LSPL came out a winner, but other end-of-season prizes were also dished out this month.

Most improved team

LSPL crestWell done also to Oakwood FC 1st Team, who won the title of the LSPL’s Most Improved side, having turned their season around after Christmas following a terrible start to the season.

Their reward for the amazing turnaround was a game against LSPL Champions Drumchapel United at Old Trafford, home of the Barclays Premier League Champions Manchester United.

The game found little to choose between the teams, with penalties seemingly inevitable until a well worked move from Drumchapel in the dying minutes saw them claim the win and round off their perfect season in style.

Team of the Year

Congratulations to Tipton Town Ladies, chosen by the LSPL panel as the Team of the Year. According to the panel, the team “thoroughly immersed themselves in the LSPL, taking part in every Gerrard Challenge, submitting several entries for Goal of the Season and keeping the wider LSPL community informed of what the club was up to via plenty of press releases.”

The Ladies received their award at Old Trafford after the Drumchapel v Oakwood match, rounding off a fantastic season, which also saw them promoted to the Birmingham County Women’s Premier Division.

Club secretary Susan Albrighton said: “This has certainly topped off an amazing year and we can’t thank the LSPL enough for making us feel more like a Premier League club.”

Goals, goals, goals!

Tipton’s hotshot striker Kiren Rana won the LSPL Golden Boot award, scoring an amazing 26 league goals at an incredible average of 1.86 goals per game. Well done Kiren!

The Goal of the Season award was won by Clapton Rangers FC 1st Team, for a fantastic team goal ending with a sweet volley from the edge of the box. Check it out on the LSPL website.

There’s more… the LSPL Cup!

Training sessionCongratulations also to Alumni FC, who won the inaugural LSPL Cup, a virtual knock-out competition involving 512 Club Website teams. These were whittled down to the last 8 who met at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground on 31 May for the final stages.

Alumni FC overcame the odds and the pre-tournament favourites to claim the LSPL Cup and a fantastic prize, including entry into next season’s LSPL.
