2-0 in 47 seconds… a world record?

The English FA have confirmed that the two goals scored by non-league Newcastle Blue Star in the opening 47 seconds of a game last week are the fastest they have on record.

Striker Lee Novak put Blue Star ahead after just 17 seconds of their Unibond League First Division North clash with Bamber Bridge on 9 April.

When former Middlesborough player David McTiernan added a second there were an incredible 47 seconds on the clock, leaving Blue Star wondering if they had made history.

Club Secretary Jim Anderson told Club Website “We can’t believe it. I’ve written to the Guinness Book of Records and I’m waiting to hear if it is a world record.”

The fastest goal ever reported to the FA was scored by Cowes Sports FC’s Marc Burrows after two seconds of their Wessex League Combination match against Eastleigh Reserves in April 2004.
